Construction of the Log Cabin : 10th Weeks

My husband and I spent a night at our cabin last weekend. It’s freezing up there with fog and mist but surely its peaceful environment for us. Praise is to God who has given us sustenance, as it builds this cabin. With the completion of this cabin, hopes we will be more productive and can give more to those in needed.

I hope I can start gardening in front of the cabin very soon

Construction of The Log Cabin : 8th and 9th weeks

I am happy with the development of the log cabin for the past two weeks. Floor tiles have been installed as well as the toilets. The table top looks smooth even though it's not smoothen yet. Well.. I have nothing much to say, just can't wait to see how it looks when it's completed.

First Harvest: Tapioca

This is the tapioca that we harvest last weekend. So smooth, tender and yummy. My mother loves to eat tapioca tubers with salted fish and sambal belacan (prawn paste gravy). Same goes to my  nephew, Alif, he said "Tapioca + salted fish + black coffee = heaven". hehehe.. So last weekend everybody was happy to have some boiled tapioca tuber with salted fish for breakfast, and tapioca shoots in coconut milk with rice for lunch. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture on tapioca shoots. Just take a look what we have..

Visitor From Borneo

The last two weeks have been very busy days for me and my husband. My mother came to Kuala Lumpur to do some medical check-up so we have to attend her. But last weekend she has an opportunity to visit our farm and our under construction cabin. As a farmer she is very happy because I follow her footsteps. I can feel her true farmer blood when she insisted to plant a few tapioca and corns to mark her visit to our farm, despite her poor health. Her next visit would be in November and she is looking forward to plant more tapiocas.

My Ginger Flower

I was introduced to Ginger Flower or Bunga Kantan in Malay in 1998 when I moved to West Malaysia. Bunga Kantan was used to add good flavor to Laksa Penang or Laksa Johor. Till 1990’s it’s hard to find Bunga Kantan in my home town but now it’s become popular herbs in the market. I think it is because there are a lot of West Malaysian who resides in my home town now. I never got a chance to plant Bunga Kantan before, according to my mum; this herb is very difficult to grow. Its need watery grown and take two years to flower. Well, since I am a fan of Bunga Kantan, I guess it’s worth waiting. My husband told me one of his staff, Wak Isa is a successful Bunga Kantan supplier. So I ask Wak Isa, how to grow them. Wak Isa told me a few tips and supplies me with 8 suckers of Bunga Kantan. Thank you very much to Wak Isa then with Bismillahirahmannirrahim I plant the suckers by the stream of my little farm. Not enough with that, I stop by the road and plucked two dry flowers of wild Bunga Kantan to get some seeds. According to my reading on the internet, Bunga Kantan from the seeds take more time to grow and to flower than Bunga Kantan which grow from the sucker. Whatever... It's ok with me, better be late than never and no harm trying. So I also try to grow Bunga Kantan from the seeds. I have been four months since I grow them, just take a look of them.

Construction of The Log Cabin : Sixth and Seventh Weeks

It's been a long time I did not write about our log cabin which is under construction in our farm. This is the second week of the construction after Eidul Fitr holiday. Nothing much development I guess, except the guest-house have been installed. Unfortunately I notice there are differences between the roof in the guest-house plan and what have been built. Errrrr.. It's really plucking on my nerves.. I have told En. Rafi, The contractor, about this tonight at 1.30 am. Hahaha I bet he was in a deep sleep when the message arrived. I am looking forward to what he is going to say tomorrow.
